Anime Industry Trends in 2026: From Manga Adaptations to Streaming

Crunchyroll has about 21 million paying subscribers. Its catalog has more than 1,300 titles, far more than Netflix’s roughly 200. In peak seasons such as summer 2026, Crunchyroll streams 45 to 60 series at once.

On pricing, Crunchyroll raised rates by $2 on all plans in 2026 and dropped its free, ad-supported tier at the end of 2025. Netflix also raised prices in March 2026. Viewers now have to recalculate what their subscriptions cost.

A Crunchyroll survey conducted with National Research Group covered 10 countries. Among fans aged 13 to 17, 79 percent said they watch more than they did a year ago. Among Gen Z, the figure was 68 percent. These young viewers keep 2026 anime industry trends moving upward, from merchandise to streaming subscriptions.
